Common Lexapro Side Effects

Lexapro side effects experienced by an individual vary depending on the person taking the medication. However, there are some common side effects that were identified via clinical trials that were conducted. Some of them are common and others are more rare. The clinical trials included over 1300 adult patients and 576 children (ages 12 and over) with major depressive disorder. A portion of each group was given the Lexapro while others were given a placebo.

Side effects were also present in children ages 12 – 18 that included dehydration resulting in increased thirst cravings, irritated muscle movement, bloody noses, trouble urinating, heavy menstrual periods, and potential slowing down of growth and weight changes.

It is really important to know that, while taking Lexapro, comes with side effects, do not stop taking them abrupty. It is extremely dangerous to stop taking a depression med cold turkey! Talk to your physician and develop a plan to gently wean off of them instead. 

Conversely, there are some things to consider if you intentionally or accidentally overdose on the meds as well. 

If you have an overdose of the drug (noted as more than 1000 mg) by itself or with alcoholic beverages or other drugs, more serious symptoms were experienced, sometimes leading to fatal consequences.
