What is Abilify?

What is Abilify? This drug is also known as aripiprazole, is an atypical antipsychotic and antidepressant that is used to treat schizophrenia, manic depression (otherwise known as Bipolar Disorder) and can be used as an additional treatment for major depressive disorder. In rare cases, it is used to treat mood swings, temper tantrums and other conditions that exist with those suffering with an autistic disorder.

So what is Abilify? This medication is also known by its generic brand, Abilify Discmelt and known as Aripiprazole. This drug works by modifying the sensitivity of the brain’s primary messenger components that include dopamine and serotonin.

It is one of many antipsychotic drugs prescribed for these disorders. It is important to evaluate all of your options and make an educated decision. If you are considering this medication as your treatment of choice there are various things that need to be taken into consideration such as the following:

    Also, in extreme cases, this medication can cause seizures, convulsions and involuntary body and facial movements. Tremors, excessive saliva production, lethargy, nausea, dizziness and extrapyramidal disorder may also exist.

    Again, these are rare but severe is they show up so it is important to contact your doctor is you are taking these meds and experience any of these symptoms.
